1989 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship: University Of Michigan Vs. Seton Hall University (Full Frame) : Michigan vs. Seton Hall - April 3, 1989 - Seattle, Washington The Kingdome in Seattle, Washington played host to the 1989 NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Championship game on the evening of April 3rd. This battle was a clash of two #3 seeds as the Michigan Wolverines from the mid-west region took on the Seton Hall Pirates from the west region. The match-up was one of firsts, as it was the first title appearance for both Michigan and Seton Hall, and would eventually become the first national championship for the University of Michigan and their head coach, Steve Farber. The Wolverines were able to hold off a scrappy and determined Seton Hall team to claim the national title. It took an overtime effort to finally put away the Pirates, but the Wolverines, leg by Glen Rice, eventually prevailed by a slim 80-79 margin. 1993 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship: North Carolina Vs. Michigan (Full Frame) : North Carolina Vs. Michigan, April 5, 1993 - New Orleans, Louisiana. Now sophomores, Michigan's "Fab Five", with last season's final game loss to Duke painfully fresh in their memory, burst from the locker room declaring to do nothing else but win this one. It appeared the Wolverines' had a controlled lead of 67-63 with 4:32 remaining; but that was to change in one of the most exhilarating and peculiar finishes in tournament history. The pulse of the game changed entirely after a 3-pointer by North Carolina's Donald Williams, a missed shot by Michigan's Jalen Rose, and then Derrick Phelp's lay-up putting the Tar Heels in the lead. Shocked and confused by the turnaround and the noise of the screaming crowd, Michigan's Webber attempts to call a time out in the remaining 11 seconds of the game, However, Michigan had no time outs left, resulting in a technical foul. Donald Williams, named Most Outstanding Player, makes both shots for the Tar Heels from teh line and Carolina also gains possession. Williams is fouled, and sinks the next two, clinshing the win for Carolina.
