Mechanism (philosophy) - In philosophy, mechanism is a theory that all natural phenomena can be explained by physical causes. It can be contrasted with vitalism, the philosophical theory that vital forces are active in living organisms, so that life cannot be explained solely by mechanism.
Mechanism (science) - A mechanism is a physical or chemical process involved in a natural phenomenon. For example, in chemistry, a reaction mechanism is the step by step sequence of reactions by which an overall chemical change occurs.
Logical clock - A logical clock is a mechanism for capturing chronological and causal relationships in a distributed system. As physical clocks cannot be perfectly synchronized, event timestamps derived from readings of physical clocks cannot in general be used to find out the order in which events happened.
Chemical kinetics - In physical chemistry, chemical kinetics or reaction kinetics study reaction rates in a chemical reaction. Analysing the influence of different reaction conditions on the reaction rate gives information about the reaction mechanism and the transition state of a chemical reaction.
